Jefferson County Community Ministries Receives Church Property Donation

 

Halltown, WV – On Thursday, Jefferson County Community Ministries (JCCM), a faith-based non-profit organization based in Charles Town, WV, was gifted the Halltown Presbyterian Church property previously owned by Shenandoah Presbytery of the Presbyterian church. The property and church building will be used by JCCM to further assist people in need in the Jefferson County community. It will act as a temporary cold weather shelter to help serve JCCM’s clients and will be utilized in the interim period as JCCM works towards the completion of its “Neighbor Project”—a new Community Services Center to be built in Ranson, WV.

 

“We’re so grateful to Shenandoah Presbytery for this kind donation which will impact the lives of so many people in our broader community,” said JCCM Executive Director, Keith Lowry. “The timing of this donation couldn’t be any better given the cold weather we’ve experienced lately. In the past, our cold weather shelter has always rotated from church to church, and people in need would be subject to the fluctuating schedule.” Lowry went on to state, “Now, we have a fixed location to offer these essential services. This will greatly help us in our efforts as we strive each day to improve and grow.”

 

The property is comprised of a total land area of 0.74 acres. The building itself is a brick and wood framed church founded in 1960 with an inscribed date of 1900. The interior includes a sanctuary, offices, and restrooms. The property’s location on Halltown Road is convenient to Route 340 and the towns of Shepherdstown, Charles Town, Bolivar, and Harpers Ferry.  JCCM will begin serving clients at this location on October 31, 2022.
